The new blackbox (FDM) for GKS 2.0: what you need to know

What is it?

The new registered cash register system (GKS 2.0) comes with a new blackbox, also called an FDM 2.0 (Fiscal Data Module). This device automatically and securely sends every sales record to the Belgian Federal Public Service Finance (FOD Financiën).

The old blackbox was mainly a closed data vault that was only read out during an inspection. The FDM 2.0 works online and sends the data directly to the FOD.

When do I need to switch?

This depends on when you bought your current cash register. If you have several registers, the most recent one counts. The blackbox itself does not count.

Register purchasedSwitch at the latest on
Before 1 January 20181 July 2027
Between 1 January 2018 and 31 December 20211 July 2028
From 1 January 20221 January 2029

Are you opening a new business that falls under the obligation? Then you have had to work with GKS 2.0 from day one since 1 July 2026.

We recommend not waiting until the last moment. Shortly before the deadline, many businesses will need to switch at the same time, which makes planning harder.

What do we arrange for you?

As soon as the government contacts you to let you know you qualify for the new Blackbox, get in touch with our sales department. We will then arrange the new black box, install it, and connect it to your till. If we need you to take any steps, we will let you know.

What do we ask from you?

  • Make sure you have a stable internet connection at your business. Without internet, the Blackbox 2.0 will not work.
  • Don't throw away your old Blackbox — you are required to keep it for at least 7 years.
